  • Country Programme

UNFPA’s Third Country Programme is in place from 2003 to 2007, with a financial amount of US$1.5 million to $2.0 million. The priority areas of the third Country Programme are based on issues identified in the Country Population Assessment and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF); likewise, they are aligned with national priorities and the Millennium Development Goals. The programme will consolidate past achievements and introduce new initiatives.

UNFPA is focusing its efforts on reproductive health, population and development, and gender. The overall goal of the third Country Programme is ‘to contribute to the national goal of improving the quality of life of the Maldivian people through improved reproductive health status and the empowerment of women.’ The Country Programme will contribute to the overall UNDAF goal of balanced and equitable development of Maldives, which is the focus of all United Nations Agencies here.

The programme will emphasize capacity-building and partnerships and will comprise two subprogrammes, namely, reproductive health and population and development strategies.
